Right now many people are complaining that they played a ton of DUPR games when they were newbies so they are stuck in DUPR hell. Players will now have: • Right-hand DUPR • Left-hand DUPR Matches will be recorded based on the primary hand used throughout each game. This update is intended to improve rating accuracy for players who switch hands or actively train their off-hand. Hey everyone that’s played pickleball in the UK, Just looking to see if you have any way of finding good quality matches in your areas. Played an indoor tournament on a wooden floor (still getting used to it, but that is not the main issue). Ran into a team where one player was clearly weaker and stuck mostly at the baseline, and the other guy was a lefty, easily 4.0+ DUPR. From the start, he was aggressively intercepting everything. The club I go to is relatively new and roughly separates people by DUPR ratings, but nothing is checked nor tracked. They are thinking of making DUPR ratings mandatory for social play. I'm wondering if this kills the casual feel of social play, forcing people to take every game too seriously?

We had a small group of players 5-7 for a year and a half. There are a couple of solid players 4.7-4.8 and they gold/medal a few 4.5 competitions. the other few players fluctuated quite a bit from 3.9-4.4 since they played random dupr games. Yeah...so I don't mind blowing $35 for science. Currently a 3.998 with 100% reliability. I think its pretty close to my actual performance (as much as I want to think of myself as a 4.25). So for science, the entertainment of this reddit, and my own entertainment I just blew 34.99 on RESET. I did a DUPR reset hosted by Pickleball Kingdom in Washington today. We had 20 entrants, 5 courts. 7 games (due to time restraints). At the pregame meeting they explained the rules of the ladder etc, and noted that it takes 8 games with at least 2 different partners during a DUPR reset period to calculate your potentially upgraded score. I really hope they factor some type of reliability for this because(especially in the early days) a 3-3.5 level player could have started off in the 4-4.5 dupr range with a couple of early wins and that’s really not indicative of a a true “high” mark. Other features are - sub scores: Mixed and age based Dupr impact, which seems to be what is already the Dupr forecast.
I've been playing in college for 3 years after missing my freshman year with a torn ACL. All this to say I am graduating and looking for new places to play in tournaments. I want VAIR to be used, but it seems they paid a bunch of influencers to push VAIR by saying it is better than DUPR, but none of them answer the question of why/how VAIRs algorithm is better than DUPR. It’s an arbitrary number. Why are you guys so obsessed with it? Here is a thought. Play more, drill more, win more, play more tournaments, have more laughs, make more friends. All things that are way more productive than obsessing over DUPR. The fact that some tournaments use not reporting to DUPR as a selling point is telling. The only reason I even have a DUPR is to get into some gated open play.

I don’t understand the algorithm. I have scenarios that doesn’t make sense to me: 1. If I am higher than my partner and if we win I always get lower + points. If we lose I get more deduction. 2. If I am lower than my partner and we win they always get more + points. If we lose they get less deduction. I am 3.5+ player and I joined 3.7 to 4.2 DUPR rated session. DUPR 3.49 (75 reliability), now enrolled in the DUPR Reset program. Played 8 games, split between partners rated 4.4 and 3.9 (both 100 reliability), against \~4.0 opponents (100 reliability). Does anyone know how long it takes for your DUPR reliability score to start to drop? Not planning on doing any DUPR recorded events until a tournament in July and am hoping my reliability will go down before then. Not sure if it depends on your starting reliability score. What’s the proper response at a tournament when one of your opponents partners can’t play for whatever reason and they try to bring in a sub that’s maybe slightly higher than the DUPR division your playing in -say 3.6 when your playing a 3.0-3.5 division- but the reliability is maybe 30%? Do you object on straight principle or is that being a crybaby? What if the reliability is higher? Do you object to any subs -period?
Some of the people I played with that had no DUPR at all started at 3.5 with the new rating system (and then it went down or up from there), and some started at 2.5. So I’m not sure how the initial rating is determined when there was no history to start with and the two groups were playing at the same league level. Hi everyone! 👋 My partner and I are around 3.6–3.9 DUPR and trying to improve as efficiently as possible toward solid 4.0+ level. We usually train 2 hours per session: 1 hour skinny/half court drills (down-the-line dinks, drives, hands, volleys) 1 hour full court drills/games (cross court dinks, 3rd shot drops, resets) My best tournament performance is a bronze at a 3.5 level tournaments but still loses mostly at the intermediate level tournaments, but I would constantly play quarterfinals....
I feel like when most people refer to their rating, they're referring to DUPR.... But DUPR is really only good if you can feed it a crap ton of high quality match data with a lot of partner and opponent variety. Otherwise, you can't treat a DUPR rating as objective. USAP ratings on the other hand are so much more objective. It actually measures ratings by skill definitions (Example: You either do or don't have a consistent 3rd shot). USAP ratings are so much more informative to me about someone...
Four people in my playing group, myself included with 5.0+ DUPR in both singles and doubles, are playing with the new Perseus Pro V 16MM for the past 2 1/2 weeks. All four paddles are getting core crush after 2 1/2 weeks. It seems like the durability on the Pro V is very questionable.
The rest if undoubtedly a money grab, but it's also just a non-issue. Let me explain. If people opt in to the reset, and go an play a bunch of DUPR'd games, and their DUPR rises, then they have earned that rise. The algorithm is functional as usual, players haven't just benefited from p2w (pay to win). Conversely, if players opt into the reset, and their DUPR doesnt raise, then that just proves the algorithm is pretty accurate, and they player is right where they should be. No harm, no foul. ...

So after May 17th, I’ll see my new DUPR that are only from this period right? So currently my DUPR is 3.15 with 90 reliability but I’m playing a 4.0 tournament tomorrow. So would I not be able to see my scores after they’re registered for tomorrow’s 4.0 tourney? Or would they still go towards the 3.15 rating and then they’ll automatically be calculated after this reset period? I’m a little confused.

I signed up for “DUPR reset” through the “reset link” on the DUPR app. I don’t see anything/anywhere that says, the reset was applied or see the amount paid anywhere. Neither did I get a confirmation email. How do I know that I am signed up for reset?
During the refresh period I assume that opponents duprs will be against the non-refreshed #’s, however, does anyone know what will happen if the player gets a higher rating after the program ends? Will the opponents duprs be updated as well?
With all this talk about DUPR resets, I’m wondering, does this make the system non-zero-sum? With the “keep the higher rating” rule, it seems like losses don’t always stick, but opponents still gain from those wins. The new algo rewards lower level players who poach higher level players DUPRS by signing up for divisions one or two levels higher than they are actually rated and punishes higher level players who don’t have much to gain but a lot to lose.
