ASICS Love Tennis Skort Review

Asics Women's Love Skort, Medium, Black
Asics Women’s Love Skort

ASICS Love Skort is great for moving around the court. The “CoolMax” skirt fabric covers the shorts completely and has cute ruffles on both sides of the hips. The skirt has a high waist line for good coverage and gives you the support you need while playing.

This one doesn’t have a separate pocket for balls, but you can store them in the shorts underneath. The skort is made of 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex and the fabric can hold up well to repeated washing.

If you decide to go with the ASICS love skort, keep in mind that the material used for the shorts can sometimes be too soft to hold the balls. Also, after a washing a few times, it can get smaller and tighter.

Adidas Barricade Tennis Skort

As you may have heard, US Open champion Naomi Osaka recently made news in the tennis world by signing a record-breaking deal with Adidas.

During the US Open finals, she was seen wearing an adidas women’s Barricade Tennis  Skirt in black/ dark heather

The skirt is made with the brand’s Climalite fabric which is known to wick moisture and designed to keep you cool on the court. Skirt material: 84% polyester, 19% elastane.

The slim-cut skirt has built-in shorts and a wide bond waistband with a discrete color accent. While the black is elegant, if you’re looking for something brighter, the skirt is also available in scarlet red.

Nike Court Pure Skort Review

Nike Womens Court Pure Tennis Skirt White/Black 830616-100 Size Large
Nike Women’s Court Pure Tennis Skirt

The Nike Court Pure skirt is our absolute favorite and it might be yours if you appreciate a good quality fabric, a wide range of colors to choose from, and a flattering look.

It is comfortable, fits well, and comes in various colors ranging from lively colors like Vivid Purple and Electro Green to softer, pastel colors like Sunset Tint and Still Blue.

This skort features an elastic waistband and it is made 81% from Dri-FIT, which is a fabric that moves the sweat away from the body and to the surface of the fabric and keeps you dry and comfortable! You can machine wash these and have them dry and ready for you to put on in no time!

This skort doesn’t have a built-in pocket, but inner shorts provide the support you will need and they are convenient for ball storage. Also, they can be shorter than you would expect, so you might want to consider going for a size bigger if you choose to purchase these.

HEAD Women’s Athletic Tennis Skort

HEAD Women's Athletic Tennis Skort - Performance Training &, White, Size Large
HEAD Women’s Athletic Tennis Skort

This skort by Head is made of 90% Polyester 10% Spandex. While the waistband is snugly fit, the skirt fabric is rather loose for our liking. While it’s definitely looser and comfortable fit and the fabric is soft to the touch, some of the Head models are not as shapely as other skirts on our list and can look a little frumpy for our taste.

However, if your looking for a comfortable and athletic fabric with a solid wide waistband this is worth a look.

Also, please note that Head has several different models all clumped together under the same product but style-wise there is quite a bit of difference between the various models and there are some hidden gems from sleeker-looking “Black Rally” to the “Grey Pleated”.

You can see all of the Head skirt styles together here on Amazon.

Prince Stretch Woven Pleated Tennis Skort

Prince Womens Stretch-Woven Tennis Skort
Prince Women’s Stretch-Woven Tennis Skort

Price uses “Dri-Control” stretch fabric on this pleated tennis skort. The fabric is designed to draw sweat away from your skin as well as providing UVA and UVB protection from the suns rays.

Almost completely made of polyester  (with only 6% spandex), this skirt may be lacking a bit compared to some of the other nicely blended fabrics of the other skirts we’ve compared.

The skirt comes in 4 different colors: Atomic Blue, Cosmos Pink, Purple Dahlia, Black, and White.

For the price, it’s one of the most affordable skirts on our list, especially considering its name brand and from Prince- a well know tennis company.

FILA Women’s Core Flare Skort Review

Fila Women's Core Flare 15'' Tennis Skorts (Small, Crimson)
Fila Women’s Core Flare 15” Tennis Skort

If you prefer longer skirts, the Fila Women’s Core Flare 15” Tennis Skort might be the right choice for you. It is longer than most tennis skirts and the waist doesn’t sit as low as some other- it’s designed to ride high enough – above your belly button.

The 15″ length comes down to about mid-thigh on most women. If you prefer a skirt with more “cover-up” this would probably be a good option for you.

It is comfortable and flattering, but it doesn’t have a pocket. Shorts fit the legs quite well, they don’t ride up and have enough room and stretch to hold pickleballs.

So while there’s no pocket, you can slip the ball under the interior shorts that have stretchy fabric. If you are a tennis player, the ball should fit comfortably.

The skirt is 100% Polyester so the sweat doesn’t show through. The material is thin enough to keep them breathable but opaque enough to provide good cover-up.

The Fila skort comes in black, white, red and navy and peacoat colors (peacoat is dark navy -really not a noticeable difference between the two)  so there are options so you can easily match it with your other tennis or pickleball outfits.

This skort comes very true to size and is, as we said before, a little bit longer than expected for skorts. Keep that in mind if you decide to buy FILA Women’s Core Flare Skort for pickleball.

Sports Skort By X31 Sports Review

X31 Sports Running Skirt Tennis Skort with Shorts and Pockets (Turquoise, Small)
X31 Sports Running Skirt Tennis Skort

Besides the obvious- cute looks and beautiful colors, this skort has much more to offer!

This skort by X31 Sports is a running skirt with shorts underneath. It is very soft and light. It comes with a zippered pocket that makes it easy for you to carry your essentials with you- like keys, ID or credit cards.

You can choose from three available colors: pink, blue and black and easily match it with the rest of your court attire. Built-in mesh shorts are comfortable and designed to not wrinkle. Also, this model is very comfortable and dries out quickly, so you don’t have to worry about your sweat causing chaffing.

If you decide to go with the X31 it would be good to know that the pockets on the hips are a tight fit for a pickleball although you can easily tuck balls under the stretchy material and tennis balls are no problem with these.

Some customers have reported that this skort runs a little shorter than expected based on the sizing chart. If you are on the fence between two sizes, go for a size bigger than what usually fits you. While this isn’t a known tennis brand, we gave extra bonus points for a zippered pocket for valuables and included it among our top-rated picks.

Sport-it Womens Capri Skirt, Active Skapri with Pockets, Running Skirted Leggings, Athletic Skort Pants Plus Size with Tummy Control (Large)

If you are interested in more court sportswear options for women, you might want to check out “skapris“. They are very similar to skorts, except they combine a skirt and capris

They might be the right choice for you if you want to cover up more or if you are looking for a winter equivalent to skorts. Unlike skirts, which fall above the knee, skapris go down to the high calf.  The “Sport-it” Womens Skapri is one of the best options we’ve seen.

Since Skapris have no shorts underneath, it might be wise to look for Skapris with pockets for your pickleballs!

Update:   Since we originally published this article, two of our readers have written in to recommend this Capri skirt by Skirt Sports. The brand sells a variety of activewear- skirts, skapris, and leggings. We personally haven’t tried them – but since we heard from two separate readers we wanted to pass on the recommendation in case you want to check it out.

In this review, we presented you top tennis skirts on the market and, hopefully, helped you make a decision on which one to purchase.

Overall, they are all very practical and each one would be a great choice for sportswear for playing tennis, pickleball.

A skort allows you to easily move around and play while looking and feeling good. You might want to consider wearing them outside the court as well since it seems like they are making a comeback in the fashion industry.

The nice thing about these, especially the Fila and Nike models, is they look pretty elegant for sportswear compares to other tennis clothing (often just a t-shirt and shorts).  You can wear them while playing on the court but also still wear them out for lunch or another outing even if you are going to there straight from the courts.  Any of the skirts from this list would be a quality addition to your sportswear collection and a great opportunity to make a fashion statement!

Montgomery Ward actually claims to have invented the garment that combined a skirt and “bloomers” in their 1959 Spring/Summer catalog and coined the term “skort”. (source).

Here’s a quick video interview with Lucy Kovalova, multiple Gold Medal Winner at the 2017 Minto US Open.  In this video, she chats about pickleball fashion and what she wears on the court. It’s interesting to hear her, coming from a tennis background, talk about how she likes to look good on the court with matching pickleball attire including her outfits, pickleball shoes, and visor.

With more tennis players migrating to tennis I think we will hear more women talk about women’s pickleball apparel and see more style being served up on the courts. The audio quality on the video isn’t great but we still thought it was worth sharing.
