The Fila Volley Zone pickleball shoe is a versatile and affordable option for any pickleball player. This is the first pickleball shoe that Fila has made. Like many other pickleball shoes on the market, Fila uses a herringbone rubber outsole. This helps the shoe grip hard court surfaces and allows you to make quick lateral moves without getting injured. The midsole of the shoe is incredibly comfortable becuase they put extra cushioning around this part of the shoe. It offers good support and is comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The shoes are available in a variety of sizes and widths, so you can find the perfect fit for your feet.

The shoe materials are a combination of leather, synthetic, and textile. On the bottom of the shoe, they have carved out a forefoot circle area so that you can change directions quickly and it give the shoe a lot of bite on the court. The Volley Zone does have a midfoot shank that can really help with support. The reason it may feel like you are walking on a cloud when you first get the shoe is due to the EVA midsole they use for cushioning. Keep in mind though that these cushions ( like many others ) will wear out over time and stiffen up.

The sock liner is removable and can be replaced with any insert of your choice. If you are like me and have one leg longer than the other, there is plenty of room for you to put a rubber insert at the heel section to balance out leg length. This is a common trait that most people don’t know they have. Maybe go get a measurement! Local running stores can usually help you out, or an orthopedic clinic. About half of the shoe is leather, which means you will have no problem keeping them clean and looking sharp, but leather tends to trap heat so if you are prone to warm feet, you may look for a lighter option. For the price though, this shoe stands out among other pickleball shoes available right now. This brand has been making tennis equipment for so long, that making the transition into pickleball was probably quick work for them and a small investment.

Double Bounce

The Fila Double Bounce reflects the iconic Fila brand we all know and love and leans more towards a traditional style. The shoe is made with a soft, breathable mesh upper that hugs your foot and provides support, while the EVA midsole ensures hours of cushioned comfort on the court. However, the rest of the shoe is leather, which is a durable material, but heavy and hot.

The reason brands use leather is that it does provide good support and lasts a very long time. It’s also a cheaper option than using more advanced materials that drive the price of the shoe up. The shoe also uses synthetic and textile materials similar to the Volley Zone, but not as much of it. The rubber outsole is a tried and true commonly seen design for hard court surfaces. Just like the Volley Zone, you still have the forefoot circle that is supposed to help with quick directional changes and the TPU midfoot shank for extra support.

Furthermore, you still have the EVA cushioning so this shoe for a much cheaper price is really not that far-flung from the Volley Zone. This is the more affordable option from Fila for pickleball players, but will easily get the job done and protect your feet. The outsole features a herringbone tread pattern that grips the court surface and provides traction during quick movements. You can even take the EVA sockliner out and replace it with your own. Overall, the Double Bounce is a killer option for the price and is sure to last you for a long time. If you are wanting more flex in your shoe with a more modern style, I would recommend you back to the Volley Zone, but otherwise, save yourself a few bucks and take the Double Bounce shoes for a test drive.

The Fila brand has nudged their way into the pickleball community and we are glad they are here! They are well known in the Tennis community and a big part of growing the sport so hopefully, pickleball will experience a similar story with the help of Fila and other major brands moving in.
